I don’t want to be pregnant. Is abortion my only option?

You have three pregnancy options to consider when facing an unplanned pregnancy: abortion, adoption, and parenting.

If you have concerns about abortion due to the risks, know that adoption and parenting are your other pregnancy options to explore. We can help better inform you about these today at Hands of Hope PRC.

What is Adoption Like?

Adoption is a legal process that gives a child a permanent family when their birth parents relinquish their parental authority.

Many women choose adoption because of life circumstances, and they feel they are not able to raise a child on their own. This could be due to safety reasons, financial struggles, or something else.

Adoption is a challenging journey, but it offers hope and a future for your child. There are three adoption options to choose from, including:

  1. Open adoption: With open adoption, you communicate openly with the adoptive family and exchange names, addresses, and phone numbers. You both work together to schedule visits. It’s up to both parties to build the type of relationship they would like.
  2. Closed adoption: With a closed adoption, the adoptive family and birth mom remain anonymous. The child’s birth certificate and identifying information are sealed after everything is finalized with the adoption. Some women who choose this adoption plan feel they receive some sort of closure. This may be your best option if you are concerned for your child’s safety.
  3. Semi-open adoption: With a semi-open adoption plan, you have limited communication. Interactions between you, your child, and the adoptive family occur, but only through the adoption agency or specialist you’ve chosen.

Am I Ready to Parent?

Maybe you desire to raise your child deep down, but you’re questioning your ability to parent. No matter where you are in your thought process, it’s important to know that many parents never feel quite ready to step into parenthood.

There are some essential questions to ask yourself when considering this option:

  • Will my parents and partner support me?
  • How will my job/education change with parenting?
  • Can I financially support my child or find help to do so?
  • Are there resources to help me raise a child?

While it’s important to ask yourself difficult questions about parenting, it’s vital to know about the parenting support available in your community. At Hands of Hope PRC, we offer free resources for this option.
